What Is The APC?

The APC (Assessment of Professional Competence) is the practical training and experience which, when combined with academic qualifications, leads to RICS membership. 

Routes To Membership

RICS has developed a number of routes to enable individuals - from school-leavers through to professionals in land, property and construction - to gain full RICS membership. 

How To Enrol

The first step to becoming a chartered surveyor is to enrol on the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). To do this you will first need to identify the route to membership that is most suitable for you. 

APC Outside Of The UK

Candidates outside of the UK must contact their regional/local association for details on the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) in the country where they are practising. 

APC Guidance Notes - UK Only

RICS has produced a series of guides to help candidates, supervisors, counsellors and employers through the APC process. We recommend that you read all the guides available. 

APC Templates - UK Only

RICS has produced a series of APC templates that must be completed by all candidates. Once you have enrolled on to the APC you will need to download a copy of the templates so that you can start recording your training and/or experience. 

APC Support

In this section you find the various support mechanisms available to help you through your APC. These range from guidance notes, to the RICS library service, through to APC and CPD events. 

Final Assessment - UK Only

Reaching the final assessment interview stage means that you have either completed a period of structured training, or have approval to proceed direct to interview due to your academic achievements and experience gained within the profession.
