RICS Chartered Building Control Surveyors can now obtain a level 1 license through the AIBS to act as Building Surveyors and Building Certifiers after an MOU was signed between RICS and the AIBS.
With appropriate legislative knowledge, RICS Building Control Surveyors can now practice as building certifiers in Australia.
The Queensland government, through the Department of Infrastructure and planning has positively acknowledged the agreement between the two organisations.
Before the MOU was signed the Queensland government predicted a shortfall in building certifiers of up to 86 per cent over the next eight years.
Glen Brumby, Director of Building Codes Queensland said "I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate both RICS and AIBS on finalising this agreement."
"This is a real step forward in addressing skills shortages by providing a more streamlined process that will attract skilled global RICS professionals to practice in Australia." Says Kaye Herald Director RICS Oceania. "RICS members through their chartered status, are well qualified to assist in the regulatory nature of building surveying and certifying."
"RICS would like to thank the AIBS for their assistance in developing this MOU and we look forward to further friendly negotiations with them in the future.
