Matt Wallace, RICS matrics UK Council representative for the East Midlands, gives his quarterly update on all the latest matrics successes and looks ahead at some forthcoming highlights.
Over the past few weeks I have attended some great events across the East Midlands region including RICS matrics LN&R’s summer barbecue, hosted by new chairman Will Newman, and the RICS matrics Nottingham chairman’s reception. By opening up invites to the wider business community networking opportunities are always there. Solicitors, accountants, lenders, investors and developers are now regular attendees at our events.
On the sporting front, I donned my boots again in the fantastic annual East Midlands Five-a-side Football Tournament. This year dozens of teams took part and Gleeds were the eventual winners. This was an expertly organised event thanks, in the main, to Melanie Westall at RICS and David Collett of DTZ.
RICS matrics groups have also been busy raising money for Rainbows, Cancer Research UK and LionHeart. A fantastic charitable golf day at Rothley Park Golf Club saw a number of teams do battle. My team, EC Harris, were the eventual winners and my thanks go to all those who participated and donated.
Please take time to review the events calendar in this newsletter and book yourself onto some of the great inter-professional and social networking events and some fantastic CPD events.
RICS matrics Derbyshire summer ball next year and RICS matrics Nottingham ball later this year are confirmed in my diary, as are the development monitoring and capital allowances CPD events in the LN&R region.
As part of my role I am very keen to hear your views on what matrics should be offering to members (and non-members) across the region, so please contact me and let me know what you think.
And as for the markets – we are in more challenging times, but we must continue to add and deliver value, providing innovative solutions to our clients. As a profession we are in great shape to progress through these troubled times and my advice is to get involved and make things happen.
