Inside Britain's largest container port

Inside Britain’s largest container port

Britain’s largest container port opened its doors this month to members of RICS matrics Suffolk for an exclusive tour of its facilities.

The tour of Felixstowe Port, in Suffolk, proved extremely popular with members and gave them a unique opportunity to see the inner workings of the major international gateway.

The event programme included a chance to view the Haven Ports Model and a presentation of the port’s Real Estate Development by Nick Orbell, general manager of real estate development, followed by a question and answer session.

Members learnt about how the port operates and were given a flavour of the massive expansion project now underway, which will redevelop the Dock Basin and Landguard terminal as a deep water terminal.

During a detailed bus tour of the port, the surveyors were told about the engineering solutions and surveying work involved in the scheme, which was of particular interest to them.

The group is now busy planning its next get-together – watch this space for further details over the coming weeks.
