Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Hong Kong) is delighted to announce the encouraging results of the inaugural RICS (HK) matrics Charity Auction Competition. All money raised by our auctioneers is donated to Hong Kong Red Cross, the sole beneficiary of this charity auction event.
This auction competition was held on 14 June at The Rotunda of Exchange Square Podium. RICS matrics is one of the committees of RICS (HK) with a focus on career development and prospects of the surveying profession.
Mr. Thomas Lam, Chairman of RICS matrics Hong Kong said, "The objective of the event is to raise interests among younger members of the profession including students, trainees and chartered surveyors aged under 35 in selling by acution and to promote the skills of the rostrum."
Ten auctioneers with no previous auctioneering experience participated in the competition. Each auctioneer was required to sell an antique or special item supplied by our sponsors.
Their performance was then evaluated by esteemed judges: Mr. David Tse, Chairman of RICS (HK); Mr. Allan Hay, former Assistant Director of Lands Department of HKSAR; and Mr. Gareth William from Gareth Williams and Associates.
Performance of auctioneers were assessed on the basis of effective selling technique, appearance, voice and chant, knowledge of the value of the auction item, ability to auction good value for the item and overall presentation skills.
Mr. David Tse, Chairman of RICS (HK) and also one of the judges of the competition, said after the event, "We are much delighted to be able to donate all the income from this event to Hong Kong Red Cross with an aim to build a better society and support the needy in the society.
"Hongkong Land sponsored and provided the venue for today’s exercise, which was of utmost importance to our young professionals as it provided a training ground to help them equipped themselves with hands-on experience for joining the profession. We are looking forward to organizing this event annually so as to assist members in mastering related auction techniques."
