At the recent AGM, Gavin Morgan of R Davis & Co. Chartered Quantity Surveyors was elected as RICS Matrics NI Chairman for 2008-09.
Gavin says “I am privileged to accept the role as Chairman of the RICS Matrics NI and I hope to continue the success of last year by increasing the involvement of members and creating greater awareness of the RICS Matrics. Many thanks to Andrea Forsythe who done a brilliant job as chairman for the last two years.”
In the following paragraphs, Gavin lays out his plans for the forthcoming year. Participation is always welcome - start by attending the first meeting of the year, details below!
Throughout 2008-2009 we intend to hold a number of social and CPD events. The events give Matrics members a chance to meet up with old university friends or built new relationships with other surveys.
We will be holding events which will involve other professionals outside the RICS and surveys from the ROI through our counterparts in the Young Chartered Surveyors.
If you’re a student, especially APC candidate or a member with a maximum ten years full RICS membership you can be involved in with matrics.
Building on the last year’s success the pub quiz will run again in October which was brilliant fun and had a great turnout. Hopefully this year’s event can be even better. Keep your eyes peeled for further information.
If you are interested in sports, RICS matrics will be organising teams for the Belfast Marathon and organising the NI heat of the RICS five-a side football competition. If you prefer something less physically demanding and are keen to catch up with old friends or meeting new ones, why not take part in some of other events like ten pin bowling (with fantastic prizes for the winners), or wine tasting, all programmed for 2009. Some events are still to be finalised.
For all those surveyors about to go nine rounds with the APC assessment, workshops will be organised to help whip you into shape.
We will be holding monthly committee meetings, which all RICS matrics members are encouraged to support.
You are welcome to come along regardless if you have never been to an RICS matrics event or meeting.
Details will be sent out to all Matrics members and events are published in the LLL calendar or you can email any of the committee members listed below for more details, so come along and see what it is all about. The next meeting will be a breakfast meeting on Thursday 4th September (Ulster fry will be optional).
