Event Overview
NO BIRD!
A phrase definitely not heard often at this year's Kent matrics clay pigeon shoot, which was held at Kent County Showground.
We had an excellent turn out with more than 30 people from a variety of surveying and other professional backgrounds trying their skills at blasting the formidable (clay) opponents out of the sky; suffice to say that some were better than others, but as all good sportsman say: 'it's the taking part that counts…..'.
The day kicked off at 1100, where we were all given a comprehensive and joyous safety briefing from the excellent instructors of the day; from there we all had 25 shots to hone our skills and see what the day was to bring. Competition was rife at this early stage and you could cut the tension with a knife in the girls' group……
Tea and 'sarnies' were next on the agenda to fuel the 'Top Guns' and novices alike and it was then back out onto the range to start the competition when we were split into three groups of mixed bag of skills, ranging from the conscientious objector (you know who you are…Oli) to SAS level sniper.
Under the searing sun there could only be one winner though, a sportsman in every sense of the word, with 41 points and a 1 point lead. Mr. Steve Roper of FFT LLP took home a crate of wine.
In second place, with 40 points Matt Jess of Cluttons trounced the competition to receive a bottle of champagne, despite his claims that he had never used 'this type of gun before' - even if this claim can't be substantiated, well done, …!
The winner of the ladies was Amy Clements with 23 points, who was delighted when she realised she too had a crate of wine to take home.
In addition to these winners, we also were secretly running a booby prize to go to the person(s) who made the biggest 'Boob' of themselves; this went to Mr. Oliver Garsed-Bennet and his fiancé who miraculously scored the same as each other, although we were convinced had it not been for the 'threats' Oli received on the last stand from his future lady friend, Oli would have beaten her hands down.
All in all this was a fantastic day, a fantastic venue and a great turn out. Many thanks go to TS-P law for their kind donations, Abbey Shooting School for the great training and to the chairman and all the others on the Kent matrics committee for making this event possible.
Kent matrics also managed to raise a further £25 for Lionheart - we thank everybody for there contributions and have received some fantastic feedback.
We have some fantastic events and APC workshops coming up very soon. If you think this would be of interest to you or any of your team please contact either Clare West, Chairman (clare.west@mjmapp.com) or Chris Kempton Social Chair (Ckempton@shw.co.uk) for further details or alternatively you can visit both our RICS web page (just search Kent matrics on the Web Site) or our Facebook page, both will be updated regularly!
