RICS matrics Yorkshire & Humber

5 A Side Football Final

On Wednesday 4 June, 17 teams from across the Yorkshire and Humberside region battled it out in this year’s RICS Matrics 5 A Side Tournament, sponsored by Anders Elite, held at Goals Soccer Centre in Leeds.

Defending champions Rex Procter & Partners were drawn in the “Group of Death” with previous winners Colliers CRE as well as DTZ and first time entrants, Faithful and Gould.

Rex Procter made their intentions of holding onto the trophy for a third year clear in the first game, brushing a slow starting CCRE aside 5-0.  This appeared to be the catalyst that CCRE required however, turning DTZ over in the next game by six goals to two.

Other notable performances in the group stages include GVA Grimley putting four past Atis Real, only to be on the receiving end later on in the afternoon of a four goal beating by Naismiths. Sum Ltd and JHA Ltd were the only teams to progress to the knock out stages with 100% records.

The Quarter Finals included some rather fiery games, with Lambert Smith Hampton progressing at the expense of Naismiths, King Sturge losing out to JHA, and Davis Langdon putting in a sterling performance only to be bettered by the impressive Rex Procter.

A closely contested semi final between Faithful and Gould and Rex Procter ended with F&G victorious, scraping a 1-0 win (after the teams had drawn one all in the group stages).  LSH and JHA were left to fight it out for the remaining place.  After a cagey start, the superior skills of JHA began to show through which enabled them to soundly beat LSH 5-0.

Penalty shoot outs are rarely favoured by those involved, however, at full time there was nothing to separate the two teams.  Indeed, even after 4 penalties had been taken, there was still nothing in it!  Sudden Death was to decide this year’s winners, with the F&G keeper putting his team’s name on the cup after JHA had hit the bar.

Faithful and Gould (under the management of Andy “The Special One” Dransfield) will now progress to represent the region in the National Finals, held in London in August.
