Consultation Response to the Government's Proposals on Eco-towns

20 June 2008

RICS has submitted a response to the latest round of consultation on the Government’s proposals for eco-towns.

The response criticises the Government’s proposals and argues that eco-towns will not be real workable and sustainable mixed use developments.

In particular the response raises concerns about the location of eco-towns, who will live in them, the provision of non-residential land uses and the relationship between eco-towns and the wider planning process.

As well as highlighting RICS concerns, the response makes some recommendations on how to make eco-towns more sustainable including the use of off-site power generation and the “greening” of buildings.
