RICS response to consultation on stamp duty land tax

08 February 2008

RICS has submitted general comments to HM Treasury on a consultation relating to stamp duty land tax.

RICS is not of the opinion that Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is a major consideration in deciding whether to use a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to wrap a high value residential property in the UK.

Following consultation with members RICS is not aware of the use of SPV by individuals to avoid the payment of SDLT, this is particularly due to the start up costs and administration of SPVs out weighing any benefits of SDLT avoidance.
