Alternative designations

The right alternative designation
Each fully qualified RICS member has the right to use the words 'Chartered Surveyor', although this differs for member firms.

But some faculties may allow you to use a more specific chartered alternative designation (CAD).

You do not automatically qualify for the CAD if you are a faculty member. If you have the right level of experience and work in the relevant area of surveying, your faculty may award you the right to use it.

If you're not already using your alternative designation, find out if you qualify by calling the RICS Contact Centre on +44 (0)870 333 1600 or emailing contactrics@rics.org.
